Roxie Washington, the mother of late George Floyd’s daughter has demanded for justice over his death.
The mother of the 6-year-old said this while giving an emotional speech at a press conference in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
“I want justice for him because he was good, no matter what anybody thinks,” she said adding that “He was good and this is the proof that he was a good man.”
“Floyd had moved from Texas to Minneapolis looking for a better life. Even from afar, he was supportive of our daughter and would always talk about taking care of her,” Washington said.
Washington also told reporters on Tuesday that when she first learned about Floyd’s death, she didn’t know how to tell their daughter, Gianna.
But soon Gianna asked why people on TV kept saying her dad’s name. Then, she wanted to know how Floyd had died.
“The only thing I could tell her is he couldn’t breathe,” Washington told CNN.
She lamented that their daughter will miss Floyd through her life achievements.
“I wanted everybody to know that this is what those officers took,” Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter Gianna, says.
“At the end of the day [those officers] get to go home and be with their families. Gianna does not have a father,” she added.
Floyd died last week after a Minneapolis officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death.
