Wabba dares El-Rufai, lead protest after arrest being declared wanted

National president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba on Tuesday led a protest in Kaduna after Governor Nasir El-Rufai declared him wanted.

Wabba led the unionists on the day-two protest from NLC secretariat at Golf Course road to NEPA Roundabout on Ahmadu Bello Way through Independence Way to Muhammadu Buhari Way.

The NLC president said the protest was not about him, but about the welfare of workers.

He also dared the governor to arrest him, saying “…we are here and waiting for them.”

While they were gathered, tens of armed thugs wielding machetes and sticks disrupted the protest by throwing stones and other items at the labour unionists.

The police and other security personnel guarding the protesters however repelled the thugs with tear gas.

It was gathered that one of them was arrested by the protesting workers and handed over to the police. The arrest has not been confirmed.

The protesters, however, retreated to the NLC secretariat after the incident.

El-Rufai had earlier on Tuesday declared Wabba and others who led a protest on Monday on the start of a five-day warning strike in the state wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure under Miscellaneous Offences Act.
