Police Clash With Keke, Okada Riders In Lagos Over Okada Ban

Police and commercial motorcyclists, also known as Okada riders, including tricycle operators on Monday, clashed in Ijora area over a ban on their activities in some parts of the state by the government.

The commercial drivers clashed with the police while protesting the ban. They blocked the road and set up bonfires to show their angst over the ban.

Clashes with law enforcement officers are said to have also occurred at Apapa and Surulere.

Commuters, however, were left stranded on Monday morning at bus stops. Several were forced to walk long distances while others paid higher fares to get to their destinations.

The new directive affects six Local Government Areas and nine Local Council Development Areas.

They include Apapa LGA, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Lagos Mainland LG, Yaba LCDA, Surulere LGA, Itire-Ikate and Coker-Aguda LCDAs and Ikeja LGA.

Others are Onigbongbo and Ojodu LCDAs, Eti-Osa LGA, Ikoyi-Obalende and Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs, Lagos Island LGA and Lagos Island East LCDA.

The state government also listed highways, bridges and roads where the law also banned motorcycles and tricycles from operating in the state.
