Gunmen Kidnap MAUTECH Professor, Shoot Brother Dead

Gunmen have kidnapped Professor Adamu Zata of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Adamawa State.

The professor of soil science was kidnapped early Monday at his residence in Girei, near Yola.

A family source, Padio Phin, told The Nation that the professor’s younger brother, a veterinary doctor, Sheda Zata, was killed in the process.

Phin said Sheda, 49, spent the night with his brother after coming from his rural posting to collect his salary in the state capital.

He said the gunmen shot when they heard him coming out of his room on hearing the commotion in the house.

Zata had earlier been kidnapped last October from his residence. He was released after his family reportedly paid a ransom of N2 million.

Adamawa police spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, has confirmed the incident.

He said the commissioner of police had deployed operatives to find the kidnappers.
