Ex- Prison Official Kills Self In Court After Being Sentenced

A former senior official in Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service, on Wednesday shot himself dead in a Moscow courtroom after being sentenced to prison time for corruption, state media reported.

The man, who had previously headed a Transportation Department in the penitentiary service, was found guilty of extorting a 10 million rouble (or 160,000 dollar) bribe and was sentenced to three years in a high-security prison.

According to a court representative, after the judge announced the punishment, the defendant used a pistol to kill himself.

However, it was not immediately clear how he managed to sneak the weapon into the courtroom.

Russia’s top Investigative Agency said that it would examine the court’s safety regime.

Police Clash With Keke, Okada Riders In Lagos Over Okada Ban

Police and commercial motorcyclists, also known as Okada riders, including tricycle operators on Monday, clashed in Ijora area over a ban on their activities in some parts of the state by the government.

The commercial drivers clashed with the police while protesting the ban. They blocked the road and set up bonfires to show their angst over the ban.

Clashes with law enforcement officers are said to have also occurred at Apapa and Surulere.

Commuters, however, were left stranded on Monday morning at bus stops. Several were forced to walk long distances while others paid higher fares to get to their destinations.

The new directive affects six Local Government Areas and nine Local Council Development Areas.

They include Apapa LGA, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Lagos Mainland LG, Yaba LCDA, Surulere LGA, Itire-Ikate and Coker-Aguda LCDAs and Ikeja LGA.

Others are Onigbongbo and Ojodu LCDAs, Eti-Osa LGA, Ikoyi-Obalende and Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs, Lagos Island LGA and Lagos Island East LCDA.

The state government also listed highways, bridges and roads where the law also banned motorcycles and tricycles from operating in the state.

2 Die, 12 Others Injured In Zamfara Road Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zamfara State Command has confirmed the death of two people in a road accident which also left 12 other people with various degrees of injury.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the command, Yasir Shehu, who gave the confirmation, said that the accident happened on the Gusau-Futuwa road in the early hours of Saturday.

Shehu added that the crash involved three vehicles – a Honda, a Nissan bus, and Golf.

The spokesman for the command said that a total of 14 male adults were involved in the accident.

The PRO, who attributed the incident to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking, said that all the injured persons had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Gusau for treatment.

He then warn motorists against dangerous driving including wrongful overtaking and over-speeding as “those are the major causes of road crashes”.

Policeman Shooting At A Cow Allegedly Shot Man Dead On Christmas Day

A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday December 25, as a man identified as Onyeocha Umuokwu was allegedly shot dead by a policeman.

The incident reportedly occurred at the home of one Engineer Eze in Alor Idemili South Local Government area of Anambra state.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the deceased was killed by a stray bullet shot by a policeman aiming at a fleeing cow in the community.

The eyewitness report reads; “Onyeocha Umuokwu was shot by a police officer at Engineer Eze house yesterday been 25th December 2019, in Alor idemili south LGA Anambra stat

The news have it that a cow cut the rope they use to tied it and started running then the police officer on the duty now try to shoot the cow but mistakenly shot and killed this Alor popular/jovial man Onyeocha Umuokwu na Alor.”

Boko Haram Abduct Another Aid Worker, Others In Borno State

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have abducted Miss Jennifer Ukambong Samuel, an aid worker from Bokkos LGA of Plateau state.

According to report by PM News, Jennifer, an orphan was abducted along with several others, including Hannatu Sebastin Ishaya, in an ambush along Monguno-Maiduguri road on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Solomon Maren, a member of the House of Representatives from Mangu/Bokkos constituency condemned the kidnap of Jennifer, working with Alliance for International Medical Action.

According to Maren, “This happened on the day she was marking the 1st remembrance of her father’s demise.

“This came as a brutal shock to us, and as a representative of the peaceful people of this constituency, my heart bleeds”, Maren said in a statement.

“This is particularly so as reports say another indigene of Bokkos was three weeks ago kidnapped by the same insurgents in the North-East.

“I am pained that for the third time in three months, four of my innocent constituents have been abducted by Boko Haram in Borno.

“These are harmless citizens who by reason of their professional callings have found themselves working in the troubled region, providing humanitarian help to victims of insurgency.

“Mr Lawrence Duna Dacighir and Godfrey Ali Shikagham, both carpenters from Mangu Local Government Area, working with an international NGO were publicly executed in a widely circulated video in October 2019,” he said.

Maren stated that the entire Mangu-Bokkos constituency had yet to recover from the experience and now they were confronted with abduction of Miss Jennifer Ukambong.

According to the lawmaker, these abductions among many instances show the level of security challenges being experienced in the country.

“As legislators, we will continue to enact laws and carry out all necessary functions with regards to national security.

“I, in particular, will not hesitate to throw up meaningful debates that will guarantee the safety and general well-being of Nigerians and my constituents in particular, wherever they are.”

Maren called on security agencies in charge of security in Borno to do their best to rescue Ukambong and other abductees.

“This includes the prompt and safe rescue of Jennifer and her fellow abductees,” he said.

Police Inspector Kills Colleague, Self In Abuja

A police inspector in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday killed his colleague, a corporal, before taking his own life.

FCT Police Command in a statement on Sunday by Mariam Yusuf condemned the killing.

The statement said the incident happened at the Police Divisional Headquarters in Dutse Alhaji area of the territory.

Yusuf said that preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the inspector fired a shot at the corporal and injured a Deputy Superintendent of Police before taking his own life.

She added that the Commissioner of Police in Charge of FCT, Bala Ciroma, had ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and put measures in place to forestall future reoccurrence.

Yusuf said the command commiserates with the family of the deceased and urged residents to remain calm.

She also pledged the commitment of the command to provide adequate security during the Yuletide.

Police On Trail Of C/River NLC Chairman Kidnappers

The Cross River Police Command has launched a manhunt for the abductors of the Nigerian Labour Congress Chairman in Cross River, Mr Ben Ukpepi.

Ukpepi was abducted on Tuesday at his residence in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state by unknown gunmen.

The State Police Spokesperson, DSP Irene Ugbo, told NAN on Friday that efforts were on to rescue the chairman unhurt.

She said that the Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Unit of the police was working tirelessly with a view to rescue Ukpepi.

“Since we received the report of his kidnap, we have deployed our special unit on kidnapping to handle the matter and I can assure you that the NLC chairman will be released.”

Dr Alfred Mboto, Permanent Secretary on Security, Governor’s office, Calabar, said the state government was working with security agencies to secure the release of Ukpepi from his abductors.

Mboto gave the assurance that with the commitment of the state government in safe guarding lives and properties of residents, the NLC chairman would be rescued unhurt.

JUST IN: 39 Dead Bodies Found Inside Truck In UK

Police in the United Kingdom have found 39 bodies in the container of a truck near London on Wednesday.

The truck is believed to have come from Bulgaria.

Early indications reveal that the victims are 38 adults and one teenager.

The victims were all pronounced dead at Waterglade Industrial Park in Grays, east of London.

The driver, a 25-year-old-man from Northern Ireland, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Essex Police chief superintendent, Andrew Mariner, described the incident as tragic.

“This is a tragic incident where a large number of people have lost their lives. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened,” he said in a statement.

The police said they were alerted by the ambulance service following the discovery of the truck container.

“We are in the process of identifying the victims. However I anticipate that this could be a lengthy process,” said Mariner.

The police believe the truck entered Britain at Holyhead port in Wales on Saturday.

Kidnappers Kill Man, Abducts 2 Children In Kwali

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a man, Ayuba Chashe, and abducted his two children at Yebu community in Kwali Area Council of Abuja.

The Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Mr Danladi Chiya, confirmed the development to newsmen in Kwali on Tuesday.

Chiya said that the incident happened at midnight on Monday when the gunmen attacked the community.

The chairman condemned the attack on Yebu community that led to the death of the man and the abduction of his two children.

He assured the residents in the area that everything possible would be done to get the perpetrators to book and the children released from captivity safely.

He commiserated with the affected family and assured that there was a collaboration between security agencies to make sure that the kidnappers are apprehended.

Chiya, therefore, urged the community to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious movement to curb the menace in the area.

Recall that a similar incident happened last week in Kuje Area Council in which a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer was kidnapped with his two children.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports said six out of the nine people earlier kidnapped at Pegi community in Kuje area council had regained their freedom.

Gunmen Storm Kaduna School, Kidnap 6 Schoolgirls, Two Teachers

Gunmen have kidnapped six female students and two teachers of a private secondary school in Kakau Daji Village in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Reports say the gunmen stormed Engravers College around 12:10 am on Thursday.

Kakau Daji is said to be behind the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd.

Police in Kaduna have not made an official statement on the incident.

Gunmen Kidnap MAUTECH Professor, Shoot Brother Dead

Gunmen have kidnapped Professor Adamu Zata of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Adamawa State.

The professor of soil science was kidnapped early Monday at his residence in Girei, near Yola.

A family source, Padio Phin, told The Nation that the professor’s younger brother, a veterinary doctor, Sheda Zata, was killed in the process.

Phin said Sheda, 49, spent the night with his brother after coming from his rural posting to collect his salary in the state capital.

He said the gunmen shot when they heard him coming out of his room on hearing the commotion in the house.

Zata had earlier been kidnapped last October from his residence. He was released after his family reportedly paid a ransom of N2 million.

Adamawa police spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, has confirmed the incident.

He said the commissioner of police had deployed operatives to find the kidnappers.

According to report gathered by, after all the warnings issued by the farmers to the herdsmen yielded no positive result as the herdsmen remain adamant, the farmers decided to fight their battle themselves and take justice to their hands by reporting them to a renown powerful Ifa priest.

Shockingly, all the cows that went grazing on Sunday September 22 were struck by thunder and they all died instantly.

When asked if the dead cows can be eaten, the Ifa priest affirmed that “If anyone touches the dead cows, such person will face same fate as the cows.”

A hunter was wounded in the firefight that ensued between the Nigerian soldiers in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, Local Vigilantes, Hunters and Boko Haram terrorists.

Following credible information from the locals about the presence of terrorists at Gworege village in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State, troops of 22 Brigade/Super Camp Dikwa in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, Local Vigilantes and Hunters conducted a successful raid and clearance operations to Gworege community to clear the village of the crouching terrorists reportedly hibernating in the area, reports.

The terrorists engaged the troops in a fire fight but had to flee as a result of superior fire power from the troops.

Consequently, troops cordoned and searched the village and recovered 6 x AK, 47 Rifles and 66 x 7.62 MM ammunition. gathered that no soldier was killed, wounded or missing in action.

Unfortunately, a hunter was wounded and is receiving treatment at the 22 Bde medical Centre,Dikwa.

About six guns were also recovered from the Boko Haram terrorists who fled for their lives after being overpowered by the troops.

How Female Banker, Nofisat Ibrahim, Was Killed By Assassins In Ondo (Graphic Photos)

More details on the context that led to the death of Nofisat Adetutu Ibrahim, a staff member of the Oba branch of a commercial bank in Akure, the state capital, who was murdered by some suspected assassins on Wednesday have emerged.

Reports had circulated on August 31 about the assassination of Adetutu which was alleged to have happened on Wednesday, August 28.

The deceased, who operated the Point of Sales service was allegedly assassinated on Wednesday evening at Oke Ogba area of the capital city by two unidentified gunmen.

Information gathered by had it that the deceased was a daughter of a Principal officer of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO). She obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication from the Polytechnic and the Bsc in the same discipline from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

After her NYSC, Adetutu joined the banking sector where she worked based on contract-in-charge of the Point of Sale (PoS) ordering at First Bank PLC.

According to what a family source told, Adetutu’s money was not stolen by her killers — which shows that it was not a robbery case.

“A female customer who is a popular Businesswoman at Oja-Oba Akure, has been threatening Adetutu for about a week over a disagreement on the location of PoS by the First Bank PLC where she was working before her death,” the source alleged. learnt that the yet to be identified businesswoman in her argument with the deceased insisted that the bank should approve a PoS location for her at a place where there was an existing one — a request Adetutu felt contradicted the regulations of the bank prompting her to reject the woman’s request. The woman who was obviously angered by the rejection started to threaten Adetutu with death.

The deceased, learnt reported the ‘threat to her life’ at a police station, but unfortunately her life was taken in the (Wednesday) evening.

The source also dismissed insinuation that she was killed by armed robbers, insisting that hired assassins took her life.

It was also gathered that the Bank Manager was aware of the disagreement between Adetutu and the businesswoman over location of PoS and also was aware of the threat to her life prior the incident.

According to Punch, the Ondo State Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with the alleged assassination of Nofisat Ibrahim.

When the Fanibi Police Station, which was handling the case was visited, it was observed that three people were in the police custody over the case. obtained photos from the scene where Adetutu was shot dead and also lifeless body of the deceased.

Man Commits Suicide With Sniper In Ikorodu, Leaves Suicide Note

A Nigerian man was found dead in his room at Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos. It was suspected that he drank a poisonous substance that might be Sniper.

Bala Elkana, Lagos police spokesperson in a statement that was released on Sunday stated that Shagamu Road Police Station heard of the suicide news on 30th August.

The 37-year-old man, Seyi Onayemi by name died in his room at 7th Avenue, Rofo Estate, Odogunyan, Shagamu Road, Ikorodu, after he allegedly drank the poisonous substance. His corpse has been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

Mr. Elkana confirmed that the empty bottle of the poisonous substance and a suicide note were recovered from the scene although he didn’t reveal the content of the note.
